Phoenix Symphony welcomes new musicians for 2006-07 season
New appointments include Principal Flute and one-year positions in both the cello and first violin sections
(PHOENIX) - The Phoenix Symphony announces one new full-time musician and the appointment of four musicians to perform in one-year positions during the 2006-07 Season. Viviana Cumplido, Principal Flute, joins The Phoenix Symphony from the Tucson Symphony where she served as Principal Flute for the past three years. She is also currently Principal Flute with the Atlantic Coast Opera Festival. She has performed with the National Repertory Orchestra, and New World Symphony, among others. Ms. Cumplido holds degrees from the University of Southern California and the New England Conservatory of Music. Jing Zeng, Section Violin, joins The Phoenix Symphony for a one-year section position. Ms. Zeng is currently a member of the Virginia Symphony and the Cleveland Pops Symphony. She has held positions with the Canton Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, and Pacific Music Festival, and has performed with the New World Symphony. Ms. Zeng holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Danielle Guideri, Section Cello, joins The Phoenix Symphony for a one-year section position. Ms. Guideri is a member of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and serves as Principal Cello of the Pueblo Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with the Lancaster Festival Orchestra, Queens College Symphony, and Queens Oratorio Society. Ms. Guideri studied in the Pre-college Division at the Juilliard School and holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Queens College in New York. Sarah Koo, Section Cello, also joins The Phoenix Symphony for a one-year section position. Ms. Koo is a member of the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini in Parma, Italy, as well as a member of Trio West currently touring California and Colorado. She has performed with the West Festival Orchestra in Santa Barbara and the Festival Orchestra in Aspen. Ms. Koo holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Juilliard School. In other musician news, current Assistant Principal Cellist Jan Simiz has won the one-year Associate Principal opening and will assume that position for the 2006-07 Season. Originally from Barcea, Romania, Mr. Simiz has been with The Phoenix Symphony since 1985. He has performed with the Sacramento Symphony and the Nouveau West Chamber Orchestra and holds a Master's degree from the University of Southern California.
