Laurie Stearns Selby received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Arizona State Univeristy. She went on to obtain a position as cellist with The Phoenix Symphony in 1982. Selby's teachers include Takayori Atsumi, Ron Leonard, Zara Nelsova and Nathaniel Rosen.
Selby has performed with the Bedford Springs Festival Orchestra and has been a member of the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, Calif. She is also a member of The Phoenix Symphony String Quartet and The Classic String Quartet. Selby enjoys a large studio of private cello students and has taught music theory and master classes at the MYS Music Camp in Carlsbad, Calif., for many years.
Phoenix is home for Selby and her husband and their two sons, Nicholas and Lucas. When not rehearsing or performing, she enjoys long distance running and rose gardening.
