Gregory Falkenstein joined the Phoenix Symphony viola section in 1999. He is a native of York, Pennsylvania, and holds degrees in viola performance from Indiana University and the Eastman School of Music. Before moving to Arizona, Gregory resided in Miami Beach, Florida, where he was a member of the New World Symphony, under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas.
Since 1998, Gregory has held the position of principal violist of the Breckenridge Music Institute Orchestra, a summer festival in the Colorado Rockies. He has twice been a featured soloist with that orchestra. In addition to his current posts, he has performed in the viola sections of the Atlanta Symphony, the Oregon Symphony, the Naples Philharmonic, and many other regional orchestras.
Gregory is active in Phoenix as chamber musician, teacher, and coach and he also works regularly with the PSG Youth Orchestra. In addition to his private teaching studio, he is a faculty member at Rosie's House, an inner-city music academy in Phoenix.
