Scott Hendricks, a native of San Antonio, Texas, is unique in that he feels equally at home in bel canto as well as contemporary repertoire, and is now quickly emerging as an important artist in the operas of Giuseppe Verdi. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Houston Grand Opera Studio and a recipient of a 1999 Richard Tucker Foundation Career Grant. In the 1999/2000 season, Scott sang the roles of Don Giovanni with the Austin Lyric Opera, Top/Tender Land with the Minnesota Symphony, Dandini/La Cenerentola with Santa Barbara Grand Opera, Figaro/Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Dr. Falke/Die Fledermaus with the Chautauqua Opera, and the title role of Eugene Onegin with the Utah Opera. Other highlights of the 1999/2000 season include concerts with the New York Festival of Song at Weill Recital Hall and the Danny Kaye Playhouse in New York City, as well as the Vocal Arts Society in Washington, D.C., recitals with the Marilyn Horne Foundation in Nebraska, Arkansas and Vermont, and a Gershwin program with the Orchestra of St. Luke's at the World Trade Center.
He then joined the Oper der Stadt Köln for three seasons starting in 2000/2001, where his roles included Don Giovanni, Dottore Malatesta/Don Pasquale, Dandini, Silvio/I Pagliacci, Marcello/La Bohème, Germont/La Traviata, and a critically acclaimed portrayal of Rodrigo, Marquis di Posa in a new production of Don Carlo. With the Houston Grand Opera, Scott sang the role of Prince Dmitry in the world premiere of Tod Machover's Resurrection, Friedrich Bhaer in the world premiere of Mark Adamo's Little Women, Sharpless/Madama Butterfly, and Il Conte Almaviva/Le Nozze di Figaro.
Mr. Hendricks regularly performs on the concert platform and, as a song recitalist, he has performed in over seventy concerts with renowned accompanist John Wustman as part of the Complete Songs of Franz Schubert Recital Series. He made his New York City recital debut under the auspices of the Marilyn Horne Foundation and was an active member of the M.H.F. for many years. Scott has appeared with such orchestras as the Minnesota Symphony, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Lukes, and most recently with the prestigious Gewandhaus Orchester in Leipzig performing a program of Aaron Copland's Old American Songs.
Scott sang Marcello for his debut with the San Francisco Opera, Enrico/Lucia di Lammermoor and Germont with Opera Colorado, Ford/Falstaff, Eugene Onegin and Robert/Intermezzo with the Santa Fe Opera, Ping/Turandot and Marcello with the San Diego Opera, the Captain/The Death of Klinghoffer with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, and the role of Vladislav in Smetana's Dalibor at the Klangbogen Festspiele in Vienna. In the 2004/5 season he created the title role of Richard III, to international critical acclaim, in Giorgio Batistelli's world premiere for De Vlaamse Opera.
Scott debuted with the Bregenzer Festspiele in the summer of 2005 as Il Conte di Luna in Robert Carsen's new production of Il Trovatore, with repeated performances in the summer of 2006. The 2005/2006 season also included debuts with the Welsh National Opera as Posa in a new production of Don Carlos, and at the Opera Theater of St. Louis as Mr. Rochester/Jane Eyre. Also in 2006 Scott took on the role of Roderick in Debussy's The Fall of the House of Usher at the Bregenz Festspiele.
Future engagements include debuts at De Nederlandse Opera, the Liceu in Barcelona, the Opéra National de Lille, and several return engagements at the Houston Grand Opera.
