Matthew Kasper Joins The Phoenix Symphony as Assistant Conductor and Phoenix Youth Symphony Music Director

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Symphony is proud to announce the appointment of Matthew Kasper as Assistant Conductor. In addition to working with Virginia G. Piper Music Director Tito Muñoz, Kasper will also carry his musical role to Conductor of The Phoenix Youth Symphony in June 2015.

Kasper brings with him a broad range of experience within the music community, underscored by his enthusiasm and passion for working with young musicians. A practiced violinist by training, Kasper holds degrees from the Aaron Copland School of Music and The Chicago College of Performing Arts, where he studied under the guidance of violin masters Burton Kaplan and Shmuel Ashkenasi. Matthew Kasper has performed as a member of the prestigious Chicago Civic Orchestra and in 2010 began studies at the prestigious Pierre Monteux School for Conductors, where he trained with Maestro Michael Jinbo.

In 2014 and 2015, Kasper was invited to perform as a guest conductor with The Phoenix Symphony and led the symphony through Halloween at Hogwarts and Cirque de la Symphonie. He will lead The Phoenix Symphony again in several concerts throughout the 2015/16 Season.

Kasper was formly the Music Director of the Chicago Composers Orchestra, Associate Conductor of the Queens Symphony Orchestra and an adjunct faculty member of conducting at The Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He will join The Phoenix Symphony as Assistant Conductor in September 2015.
